Update!
Finally some gameplay screenshots
The mod's still in the pre-alpha stage though.
So far I've been working on level design.
In this post, my level remakes will be compared to the original Zuma Safari levels.
The original levels were not named, just numbered, so all of the name are original.
Warning: Large ImagesLevel 1-1, Level 2-2: Sunshine Shores
The first level, Sunshine Shores, is a remake of When Spirals Attack.
It's now I've realised I've mixed the colours up for the ground and track, so I'm gonna fix them later.
The position of the skull and Zuma also need tweaking.
Notice how the track dips under the blue coral, giving very nice depth to the playing field.
Level 1-2, Level 8-2: Ocean Breeze
This level is unfinished, due to the lack of scenery.
An ocean's breeze and Ehecatl's breath are both very similar regarding air.
And look at that. Scoring gap bonuses like a boss!
Level 1-3, Level 4-2: Seafloor Slope
This is the first level in the game to feature tunnels. Sadly, it only appears this one time near the beginning of the game.
However, some of the Zuma Safari levels are adaptations of Luxor Levels. For example, Level 7-1 is a remake of Pool of the Lotus Bloom.
In the case of this level, it re-appears as Level 4-2 to replace the remake of Scroll of Thoth.
Also, notice the nice shell-shaped groove near the skull. And look at that! Two combo bonuses in one screenshot!
Level 2-1, Level 10-2: Bubblegum Mouth
This level also needs some work, but I thought I'd show it all the same.
Here, I have attempted to remake the crosshatch pattern in the track.
Level 2-3, Level 6-3: Scattersand Estuary
This level is definitely complete.
What's strange about the Safari Version is that the holes are circular instead of the unique pattern going on here.
It's not until you put them side-by-side that you realise how shaped some of the levels have been.
I'm probably gonna alter the colours on this one, as well as a few others.
Level 3-1, Level 11-2: Marras Mosaic
This level also needs some work, but not the crosshatch pattern on the ground and the faint paper-like pattern on the track.
There's not much to say about this one, except look how close I am to an extra life.
Level 3-3, Level 7-3: Tunnels of Tethys
At first I was unsure what to name this level, but I think that sounds good.
Another level that has had its holes rounded, and has also been slightly compressed!
I have kept the square pattern that is shown on the track. The tunnel alpha channels, however, require some work.
And another level with foreground scenery!
Level 4-1, Level 11-1: Rorschach Rose
The trademark level that has made its way as my avatar!
You may notice that I have used the same foreground coral for consistency, yet changes the background objects.
Phew! Cleared the level.
Level 5-1: Lapping Tide
I have always been attracted by this level's bright colours. Sadly, it only has one chance in the spotlight.
This is another finished level, and is quite a nice remake of the already-beautiful Osprey Talon.
Level 10-3: Stardust Shores
One of my favourite levels of the game. This level, unfortunately, only appears once as well.
I love the almost-luminous track against the almost-dark ground, which wins this level its name.
And I wasn't kidding when I said "Stardust"!
An interesting thing about the original is that some of the stars are duplicated and overlap each-other!
Speaking of overlapping, the tunnel and coral alpha channels need a little bit more work.
That's what I've done so far,
and I hope you all enjoyed this preview!
