Here's what I think of each of the levels:
Die Khufu Die: I prefer Top Agent PGG Jr's redesign but the actual HD version is also quite good. I like the dark background contrasting with golden path.
Walking Like An Egyptian: Good redesign that could have been made better if it used actual humans and animals as decorations.
Grand Gallery: I like the HD design even though there's a lot that could be improved. They shouldn't make it so similar to the original and they could do better design with the people digging a tunnel and other characters pulling the coffin into the ground.
Narmer Palette: Just some cosmetic changes on this one. Not my favorite but I don't really know how this level's look could be improved.
Hall of the Apis Bull: Just like the previous level, it seems like almost nothing changed from the original except for the path texture. Top Agent PGGJr designed a lot better version of this map.
Marshes of the Delta: Good remake but it would look a lot better if it used different decorations than drawings of animals and people. Also, I would change the intersection covers to something else than a group of seagulls. Maybe some plants, for example?
Queen of Denial: I like the decorative circles on every curve in the original design and I would bring them to the HD version as well. Average design.
Bastion of the Cat Goddess: Why not to use actual cats and a statue of Bastet among them instead of just drawings on the wall? This whole level looks for me like a huge cat and some clever designer could use that fact to create a great remake of this level.
Pharaoh's War Crown: A bit too shiny for me. Despite the fact that it doesn't look like a crown at all, it's a pretty good design, both HD and original version.
Treasure City of Rameses: Again, instead of drawings of treasure, they could use actual vases, chests and coins as decoration for this level. This redesign is too similar to the original in my opinion.
Opening the Mouth Ceremony: I think this level would look great designed on the floor rather than wall and made into a garden with plant and water decorations around it. It would be hard, however, to keep it looking like a ceremony of mouth opening.
Festival of Jubilee: Pretty good redesign, I like this level both in original and HD. The path could be changed as in my redesigns to make this level more challenging.
Crossing the Reed Sea: One of my least favorite remakes. Grass in the background looks unnatural and doesn't fit the overall appearance of this level. The boats on the river bother me because it's totally visible how the spheres cross underneath. Why not to change them to bridges, for example? This would make more sense, since one of the path is water and the other one is road. And once again, it would be a lot better if all the buildings and characters weren't drawings but actual figures of people, animals and houses.
Mummy Dearest: Differences of this level between original and HD: one: light that illuminates the center of the board, two: pyramid changed to Luxor 2 style, three:
This is probably the laziest remake in history, almost completely nothing has changed from the original. How is that even "HD"?
The Stellae of Thutmosis: I like this level but the redesign is average. I had in mind a redesign where instead of drawing of a man lying in the sun there's a window where you can see in the distance a real human lying on sand and the sun shining on him but upon seeing the HD version of Scarabic Dawn I think thay would be too similar to eachother.
Isis Knot: I actually liked this remake, I don't think it needs any modification. Pretty good job with this one.
Oasis of the West: Once again, figures of people and animals around the oasis would look a lot better than drawings borrowed from the original. I would also change the beginning and ending sections to sand path to make this level resemble more an oasis than a river.
Valley of the Kings: I seriously prefer the original than HD version. Really boring design and most of the stuff was borrowed from previous game. The HD lacks the pyramid-like 3D-looking decorations between the sharp curves leaving blanks space instead making this level look even more bland.
Horus Hawk Ascending: I like both HD and original versions of this level. The HD could have been a bit more colorful like the original and it would have been one of my favorites.
Weighing of the Heart: This level is a real waste of potential. It would look great if there was an actual weight in the background and a figure Ammit below. Instead, some lazy designer just changed the path texture a little bit, making this remake one of my least liked.
Eye of Horus: Also, one of my least liked. I'm must say that original version was a whole ton better than HD. The eye's decorativeness has been completely reduced leaving just green eye that furthermore doesn't even fit the boundaries of scarab's path. I expected something a lot better and this remake was a huge disappointment for me.
Anubis Aegyptus: This remake is a lot better than the previous. If not for the bug with the path in widescreen mode, this would be one of my favorites.
Reign of the Heretic King: Many possibilities to make this level look inteesting but the designers took the easiest way possible again. This remake isn't bad but there's a lot of room for improvements.
Invasion of the Hyskos: This level remained almost unchanged but I don't really know how to redesign it because there's so few room for decorations in this level, it is probably the most "packed" level in the series. That's why I don't blame the designers for such medicore remake.
Arma Megiddo: Absolutely disappointing. There's a ton of things that could be improved in this design, for example, make the fortress in the center a real building, not just a drawing and add figures of warriors around. Upon seeing it, I seriously think the original version was a lot better.
Overall, I get the feeling that the game was made too quickly and without paying attention to details. That's because, how could they not notice a bug in the path of Anubis Aegyptus, bug with pyramid in Bastion of the Cat Goddess or the fact that a half of a stage is missing from the game (I mean stage 9)? Most of the designs aren't satisfying and with just some more effort they could have made an awesome game. Unfortunately, I did not like Luxor: Amun Rising as much as I would expect to.
