Hi all, I have a dilemma. As I started to make some new backgrounds, I've got an idea to get some backgrounds by the Internet, which is confusing, because it's not my work. Is it allowed to do so, if I would make a link to the picture? Or is it allowed to do highly modified picture from the Internet *with my modifies*?Here are examples: first (10-6) it's my test work, and second (10-8) it's copied from the Internet. Oh, and sorry for FPS drops during the video. Ah, that Fraps. (...) #Edit: Thanks for the answers. I'm not good at creating such a good art, as shown in 10-8 thought. :/ But, if it's needed to success... #Edit2: Thanks for chearing me up. I'll have more free time from 13-01, so I'll work for good bg.

Usually if you need to credit the creator, it will say it somewhere for sure, though I do suggest altering the backgrounds as much as possible, as simple images as backgrounds get boring after a while. And Iam, you don't need to make good art to make a good background, just look at some of our past work, you'll improve!

It is allowed to use graphics not made by yourself in levels. However, watch out, as not all images are free to use, and if you do use them, it breaks copyright laws.

Blatant image rips from obvious copyrighted sources are no-no. What I mean are stuff like movies, TV shows, DVDs. Google Images are usually fair game, especially royalty-free images (pretty sure there are even royalty-free wallpapers) but it's best to work on your own ones.
Also FYI GIMP can auto generate a random texture and it works wonders for pretty original BGs with little effort.
