Sometime ago, I was really curious as to how did popcap make the paths for the balls in zuma, so I opened the dat file in notepad. At about the top of the notepad file, there is one distinct understandable word there out of all those weird symbols, that says "curv." This means that the dat files are actually curv files, since I read somewhere that to know the file type of a dat file, you should open it in notepad and it should be written on the first line. Now that we know it is a curv file, I decided to search what is this curv file and how do we open it. And after minutes of searching I came across this site www.solvusoft.com/en/file-extensions/file-extension-curv/ . Scroll down and you'll see in the Software Downloads Associated with File Extension CURV that these are the programs we can use to open them: FileViewPro and Genetica Mathematical Curve (Spiral Graphics Inc.) I don't have time to download these programs, so can anyone try to download em and see if we can edit the curv files with them?

Have you investigated yet? I tied FileViewPro, but it showed me only a lot of numbers, something like hex stuff that I am so confused to understand. A full version of FileViewPro costs money unfortunately. I haven't tried the Spiral Graphics software yet.

A full version of FileViewPro costs money unfortunately. I haven't tried the Spiral Graphics software yet. FileViewPro is kind of a scam. It presents itself as a software which can open every single file format, while actually being capable of opening just a few common file types. This is certainly not a very useful program. About "Genetic" by Spiral Graphics, I've downloaded the demo version, however this is a very advanced and professionall image manipulation program and I don't know how to tackle it. Different menus allow different filetypes to be opened with them and I'm not even sure whether the Zuma's CURV files are the same as used with Genetica. Anyways, I have free time today, so I'll try do search more and find a solution.

I already sensed that it was probably a scam too the instant I went on their site. Sigh, if only we could ask one of PopCap's employees on how they did the curv files.

Sigh, if only we could ask one of PopCap's employees on how they did the curv files. Why not, actually? There's a chance we can get some information about that. By the way, I just tried replacing Zuma Deluxe curv files with Zuma's Revenge curv files - it didn't work, which means the curv files are different between the two games. Furthermore, I don't think it's possible to open the curv files with Genetica, I've tried everything and it failed :/

I don't even know how to contact them, and if we did they may just snob us. Or they'll only entertain game issues like bugs and not about things like these. They may think we're trying to profit by making a mod on their game and sell them with charge. I hope not, as a modding community for their games will help make their games more popular.

I'll try to find a way to contact them; there should be contact info on the PopCap website. I would tell them we're a small group of fans who enjoy Zuma Deluxe and we would like to make our own levels for the game (because we love it so). I think that if I mention that we won't be trying to make any money out of it, they would tell us the "secret" of the curv files. Wishful thinking, but worth giving a try.

Making competely new level paths would be very awesome. That would make mods even more better. About my mod's progress, it will have one more level called Goodbye World, which will be basically Spiral of Doom, but it will have different look. The new level paths would be really cool, but yeah, the future sometimes looks awesome and when we will get the "secret", we will don't know what the hell is going on here.

I emailed PopCap about this (I did say we're not making money, but it's because the franchise is dead), and no response. I'll wait for several days.

No response after a few days. I think this company doesn't care about Zuma anymore.

No response after a few days. I think this company doesn't care about Zuma anymore. But I DO care about it I'll contact with them too, maybe if there was many people asking about the level editing, the would finally give out some information. Let's not give up.
